WE'RE HERE TO HELP
As communities across the country battle savage natural disasters, EBM is here to help you with your insurance claims.
Streamlining insurance claims
Devastating bushfires, record-breaking heatwaves, continuing drought and cyclones have ravaged Australia this summer.
At EBM we help our clients navigate the claims process so life can get back to normal as quickly as possible. If you need to make a damage claim, follow these steps:
1. Act to prevent further loss or damage
As soon as it is safe to do so, take immediate steps to minimise your losses, e.g. put a tarp over a damaged roof or move undamaged possessions to safety. If you are in a high-risk area, check with council or emergency services that the area is safe to enter.
2. Notify us
It’s important to contact us as soon as possible to let us know about any loss and we’ll advise you about next steps in the claims process. Please contact us before authorising any emergency repairs.
3. Document loss or damage
Before cleaning up, make sure you take photos or video of damage to the property and possessions as evidence for your claim. Do not throw out any damaged items unless they pose a health risk (in which case make sure you document the damage with photographs or video or retain a sample e.g. wet carpet) – your insurer will determine if the items can be repaired or if they need to be replaced. Make a list of damaged and destroyed items with detailed descriptions. Store damaged or destroyed items somewhere safe to show the insurance assessor.
4. Provide quotes
We’ll let you know if, and how many, quotes you need to get.
5. Obtain a causation report
Request a causation report from the repairer that clearly identifies the cause of loss or damage.
6. Keep receipts
In addition to tax invoices from repairers/tradies etc., keep receipts for any work you do yourself or materials you purchase as you may be able to claim those expenses.
7. Submit a claim
We’ll work with you to ensure all the documentation for your claim is complete and our claims team will process your claim as quickly as possible. When disasters strike, insurers are inundated with claims, but rest assured your Account Manager is doing all they can to make your recovery from the event as smooth and painless as possible..
